Have been cleaning up lots in flat. I are super-tirede but at least I'm gettin' some shit done. Went to the library for the first time in ages. And cleaned summoar. When I got back from the folkses, Dad helped me bring in lots of stuffs, like a cabinet of three drawers which is nice and handy, and some old drawings, and and and there will be pictures of kid!Grouse's uberfemme sugary toy horses in CHAIN BONDAGE later as proof of my inborn kinkiness, and and and...

Went to the folks to look for my BOOKSES, and WTF? They all seem to have disappeared. We went through the whole flat, the cellar, everything, and... eh... WTF? They seem to have been swallowed up. Completely. I'd actually seen some of my books at my parents' place a few months ago, but now they've disappeared without trace. I blame the maternal, because Dad couldn't find anything even in the places where he thought he would've put bookses. What the fucking fuck? How can a flat/cellar swallow books?

Have I left any of you guys with ay of my books for safekeeping when I've been in the UK or in Finland? UK friends and Finnish friends? Anyone? Bueller?

...[info]pinkdormouse, did you send me Philip Rawson's The Art Of Tantra? Because I could swear I put it into my suitcase when I left from the UK before Christmas 2006. Are there any more of my books left at your place? Can you remember which ones you sent me? I know I got the Finnish Wicca book, Witchcraft and the Otherworld thingy, Martin Enckell's Kali, McDermott/Kripal's Kali book and stuff like that. Riane Eisler's Chalice and the Blade, all sorts of Pagany books... but bah.

...[info]frankymole? Have you seen any of my books lying about? WTF?

I know I *own* Ajit Mookerjee's Kali, and the aforementioned Rawson book in paperback. I also own hardcover Finnish versions of Baudelaire's Spleen of Paris and Flowers of Evil, but... THEY HAVE VANISHED INTO THIN AIR. What. The. Fuck.

*blames Maternal for everything*

But, er... if you spot any, tell me?

I heard an owl hooting, Huu! Hu-hu-huu! when I looked out of my window tonight. Oh, city owls... I wonder if that lonely owl can find a partner here... seems unlikely.

It was such a plainitive call, a call out to a mate, and it almost breaks my heart. But the call was beautiful, and so... lonely. I wish from the bottom of my heart that this owl will find a mate.

But, Finns, tell me, what do you think of Life on Mars?

The episodes have been edited--I could almost say RAPED by the BBC because they've removed some very important character moments. I urge you girls and guys to get the full two-season boxed set from Amazon or wherever, and at least the DVDs have English subtitles and have not been cut. You are missing out on some absolutely wonderful *character* moments that the BBC cut out. I definitely urge you to download them from UK torrent sites, such as http://thebox.bz , for which I can give you invites, if you want to. This is such a brilliant series that it should be enjoyed as it should be seen, seen as it was on UK telly, so..

I recommend that you download the ORIGINAL episodes, as broadcast on UK television, because they contain the original music tracks that fit the scenes much better than the song choices the DVD and the chopped-up version on Finnish telly use.

Please contact me ASAP to see the whole series as it was MEANT to be seen. It is *the* best British drama of the recent years.

Ganked from [info]cavefelem. SFGate: How to sing like a planet.

More poetry than anything else, and so enthusiastic and ecstatic that it just makes me grin, simply because it's lovely, and true. Makes me happy in my Pagan pants, but then it would.

I got a packet of 30 400mg Ibuprofen today from the pharmacy. I am so glad that FINALLY, Finns can get adequate pain relief from most pharmacies. And buying a big pack saved money.

Just in case anyone hadn't noticed yet. I think this is fantastic. A blessing.

Yeah, Life on Mars on Finnish telly=FLAILAGE HERE.

You can watch the first episode on the SubTV website in advance. The series starts officially on the 7th.

They've even built a website for it. With a competition in which you can win a LoM-ified Ford Cortina. AHHAHAHAHAHHA.

Now, I'm going to watch that first ep and bitch about the subtitles:D.

I've noticed lots of my flisters having those annoying Snapshot preview bubbles on every sodding link, and been wondering why in the hell you guys keep those things on, because I, for instance, find them bloody irritating--I want to read the journal entry, not look at a snapshot!

Here's how you can disable the buggers: Go to Viewing Options and untick the box that says "Enable graphic previews on external links within your journal".

I'd also recommend you set your Privacy Options tight. Untick the Weblogs.com thing, since their site mines data, much like LJ is soon going to do--i.e. meaning they'll find out who you are, what your interests are, to spam you with adverts. And you're better off unticking that Facebook box as well. And if you want even tighter privacy, tick the top two boxes that say "Minimize your journal's inclusion in search engine results"
and "Exclude your entries from site explore areas" because any random surfer can see some unlocked entries from your lj.

And now we come to that bloody annoying Navigation strip. If you are using a S2 layout, go to the Customize Journal Style page. And untick the appropriate boxes.
It's rather unnecessary, IMHO, and clutters up the page--especially if you want your journal to have a pretty header graphic, for instance.

If you're using one of the old layouts, the Viewing Options will display the Navigation strip options.

Hope this helps, ask me if you need more details.

[info]mytsis? Tuossa on nyt rautalankaa:).

Now, the Aghori (name means "non-fearing") sect of Tantrik Hinduism is often looked down upon by most hardcore Hindus, because it's very extreme. Its practitioners use the most extreme methods to reach enlightenment, because their tradition (and even Brahmanical Hinduism) states that Everything Is God/dess--the genderless Brahman. Thus, they are often vilified for it, because Brahmanical Hinduism, in its contradictory way (the Vedas are as contradictory as any other religion's holy scriptures), has its taboos.

So, the Aghori even eat human flesh, cooked and fresh from funeral pyres. I find them intriguing, because taboo-breaking and non-dualism and the fact that God Herself is everywhere in the cosmos, even the most "dirty" things. I'm paraphrasing Starhawk: "when we eat, shit, make love, we manifest the Goddess".

And now, FINALLY, I managed to track down a documentary I saw on the Discovery Channel about Indian Sadhus (i.e. ascetic holy men and women). This particular Sadhu practices Aghori.

The documentary can be found on YouTube, split into six parts:

1. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vWgW9kh_NjQ

2. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gkMpZ1uszNs

3. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CXFwzqE28ZI

4. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XjscXcrTdbQ

5. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pG0Vra5cDw0

6. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NLCpNQGIMzY

I haven't watched it in ages. I might just watch it after I've finished this post. I won't spoil it for you, but I'd LOVE to hear your comments on it.

Hm. I think... well, I've been on and off (mostly off) my anti-deps since July/August. I've been completely off citalopram. I've only taken mirtazapine (because it works instantly) for panic attacks and serious bad shit going down and when I desperately need to sleep. I've become more cranky and less tolerant of people and cynical and all that as a result, but I've also been really fucking creative and mentally alert. And I've written more than ever, and had the most amazing reading/viewing/sexual experiences ever. And feel like I've... experienced them more fully. In my other LJ, I've written a lot about the way mirtazapine tends to dull some things--that when I read a story by my favourite author, a bit that I just *know* should make me literally *squeak* with geeky joy or make me *clench* down there with sexiness. And I feel like I'm distanced. Taking a step back from things.

And that step back... well. That distance. That calmness.

That does help. At times.

But yes, the main point of this post was that mirtazapine seems to give me the calmness to be more spiritual. Last night, when I was really furious and barking angrily at everyone (long story, see on my other LJ) I dreamt Amma stroked my hair, like a loving mother, and repeated the names Dhumavati, Bagalamukhi and Matangi, all Mahavidyas. Guess it's time for me to refresh and deepen my knowledge of those Goddesses.

Offering Flowers, Feeding Skulls: Popular Goddess Worship in West Bengal.

This book looks very, *very* interesting. Just from the sample pages alone, it's quite intriguing from an anthropological perspective. *ponders* Seems to be decent academic research as well (going by the fact that it's published by the Oxford University Press).

Have to ask for the city library to get it or something. So often you just get to read about the Brahmanic traditions, whereas the Goddess worship in Hinduism so often springs from pre-Vedic, pre-Brahmanic traditions. So this is closer to the roots and how the common people see their Goddesses, about living faith not bound to Vedic ritual patterns. Hmmm...

SUBTV! LIFE ON MARS!

KATSOKAA, PERKELEET!

Oikeesti. Hakkaa kaiken muun mista nyt vouhotan 6-0.

Sori tuplapostauksesta, mutta saatana. Missatkaa toi ja missaatte television parhaimmillaan.

(Sorry about the double post in Finnish, but I have to pimp this series. It's telly at its best. And just when I was watching the DVDs and moaning at my dad how they should really show this on Finnish telly with subtitles so he could watch.)

I'm not dead! Yet, at least.

This has been a pretty damn good year:). In all sorts of ways. Mostly because my fannish madness has *really* picked up again, so I mostly ramble about that on the other LJ.

Spirituality-wise... not much to talk about either. And RL has been pretty non-eventful.

But anyway, hugs to you all, and yay for the lengthening days and more sunlight!

The joys of living on the 6th floor on top of a high hill...

Right now, five o'clock in the morning, the gorgeous full Mother Moon heavy in the clear skies, painting Lake Vesijärvi silver. Like a vast, vast swathe of silver and gold, like the Goddess admiring her own reflection:).

Yes, it may be a ridiculously expensive flat in the middle of nowhere in the suburbs, but the sights over the lake are gorgeous. There's silver as far as the eye can see all over the part of the lake I can see from my window!:)

Om Ma. :)

Eikö se riitä
siellä aukeavat
kultaiset portit päivään uuteen
ja vielä pyörii maa
Eikö se riitä
sinua rakastetaan
paljon ja aina enemmän
ja sinuun luotetaan
Eikö se riitä
että joskus harvoin
kätesi piirtää rajan
kestävän ja todellisen
--
Eikö se riitä
Vielä pakahtuvat
tunteesi monta kertaa
rikkinäisen kauneuden edessä

Yksinkertaista. Mutta taas osuu Yrkki niin etta sattuu. Iski jo kun biisi tuli ulos mutta jotenkin viela enemman nyt.

1. Quote some lyrics from 20 of some of your favourite songs.
2. Have your friends guess which song, and artist, the quotes are from.
3. Spread the meme if you so wish.

I am attempting to do 20 different artists. A bold attempt, but we'll see how it goes... Oh, and some of the lyrics might not be quite right 'cause I trawled lyrics sites, this took so long I had to use the easiest way to get the lyrics.

Comments screened. Will post results later:).

Some of Grouse's songs... )
